SWAB is a student group that offers songwriters, musicians, and singers a space to collaborate and share their passion for music.
As an artist that’s had their spark snuffed out by an overwhelming world for the past few months, I’ve been starved of a musically collaborative space.
In order to survive as a community, we’re building a platform that isn’t dependent on location. Close or far, we can weather the storm together. Now, SWAB can be with us, and vice versa, regardless of how far we go after we graduate.
The first steps to this end will be supported on this platform that we’re building.
I am putting a lot of trust in you, my collaborators.
My hope is that this website, as the club’s front page, will legitimize SWAB’s culture. We have the potential to perform as a remote creative hotbed for the musical community at Cal, and beyond!
Being pushed towards online outreach should also be seen as an opportunity to archive our past, so we don’t forget what our community is founded upon.
As a content curator, it’s my role to survey the current musical community and get their input. We’re building this creative platform together.
Overall, I’m curious to see the trajectory of this club over the course of the pandemic. We can take it in a couple of different directions, but my hope is that with a musical, remotely accessible network, the work of our peers and alumni will be more available; ultimately, this website could function as a platform to inspire musicians, with musicians. Let’s seek to redefine what we can do as a club!
